Cardboard Campout
(Fort Building)

We are going to be having a Cardboard Campout (Fort Building).  This will be our pre-winter campout.  The Scouts will be building forts out of cardboard and sleeping in them.  We will be teaching the boys how to winter camp in a safe, easy to abandon, environment.  It will be cold, so please read the "what to bring carefully".  We may even qualify for a couple of Frost Points.  For dinner the scouts will be eating cooking hotdogs and dutch-oven.

We are in need of extra donations of cardboard and duct tape.

What to Bring:

• Cardboard box (large appliance size, refrigerator size boxes work best)
• Duct tape (lots of duct tape)
• Tarps (if you can)
• Winter sleeping bag (rated at 15 degrees or below) or multiple sleeping bags (nested together)
• Blankets (for above and below sleeping bag)
• Thick pad to sleep on (thicker is better), 2 pads would be preferred
• note: air mattresses are terrible for winter camping
• Change of clothing, including underwear and socks, to sleep in (critical!)
• Flannel pants and sweatshirt (with hood or winter hat) to sleep in
• Hand warmers (10+ hours - anything less than 8 hour is useless for overnight)

As a reminder, the Crystal Hot Springs (pool and water slides) has a $10 entrance fee per boy, which includes the pool, slides and camping.

We will be camping in the snow, so please remember to pack for winter camping.

Klondike Derby is held annually in our district at the Heber Valley Camp.  The lodging is great, always lots of snow, and good activities in the day.

Willow Park Camping

Individual areas (8-10 poeple) $20 per night, Pavilion areas for one four hour time block (7-11, 12-4, 5-9) $65 or $100 for all day. Overnight camping in pavilion areas is $175 (100 people). Group sites without pavilions are available (pricing varies). Call for reservations 801-851-8640.

"Willow Park has a lot to offer with over 50 acres designed for individual, family, or group activities. This park is developed around a large group of aged Willow trees and wide open grassy areas that afford a vast number of options when it comes to recreation and relaxation. Nestled within the trees are group and individual camping sites that sport fire rings, quick access to restrooms and potable water, as well as shelter from the sun. The open grass provides parking for RV vehicles, campers and large trailers as well as plenty of space for frisbee, softball, or similar activities. Utah County has also constructed a canoe launch onto the Jordan River thus allowing the more adventurous water enthusiasts quick access to the winding river. The Jordan River Parkway also finds its way throughout the park making short walks or long hikes a possible "to do" on your list. A kids playground is open giving the younger crowds a jungle gym of safe climbing, sliding and swinging without the "Be Quiet" signs. Willow offers something for everyone and is so easy to find and so near to where you are!"
